Okay this sounds weird but I got a kitty that sucks on my hair. He is just a baby and was dumped. Obviously he was weaned way too early and because he knows I'm his new mama has taken to trying to nurse on me...or at least my hair. I don't mind that so much but those little claws in the back of my head, neck, and shoulders hurt. I've tried putting a towel over my head and he'll suck on that for a while but eventually starts digging his way down to me. I've had him nearly about a month now and estimate he is 10 to 12 weeks old and starting to get kinda heavy on my head too. Any suggestions on how to break him of the habit? I'd really like to have him stopped before my surgery on Sept 12.

Hi there
We have had cats that do that but they were declawed so it was not a problem. One of our kitties got attached to a stuffed animal. You might want to try that. My dog does that with his stuffed animal too it helps him to get to sleep. I think the behavior is pretty popular with animals. Toys are us has these reasonable stuffed animals that might do the trick. Those are the ones my dog likes. They are only like $10 Becky in OHIO ![]() LAVH/BSO 10-99 Becky's Garden www.purevolume.com/rockonml If you have been helped by Hyster Home. ps make sure to get a short haired stuffed animal so he does not choke on the fur

Thanks for the tip Becky. I will give it a try. I don't want to declaw the little guy because I live in the country and he like my other kitties runs in and out as they please and the claws come in handy to protect himself from predators of which there are many here.

I wish I had a suggestion b/c I have a cat who sucks on my NECK. I rescued Jasper when he was 2 wks old and had to hand feed him every 2 hrs for the first few wks. Somehow his love manifested into neck sucking. Now he is full grown and the kneading hurts and it is kind of gross with the saliva and all. So I have to push him away from my neck but he just waits UNTIL I AM SLEEPING and then I wake up in the middle of the night with him sucking on my neck. It's a good thing I love him so much. I feel bad b/c I know he must be feeling needy, but I can't stand the neck sucking. I even try protecting my neck with fabric and he just tries like mad to manuever around the fabric.
I asked my mom if Jasper is ever going to grow out of this. She thinks no, probably not. (She has rescued and raised well over a hundred cats, if not close to 200). It just makes her laugh. Good luck and take care, Carissa |
